In November 1963 a Mr Gibbon offered to form a group in the south western region of Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. Of the questionnaires sent out 26 replies were received and so an Inagural meeting was held on 8th March 1964. In January 1966 the magazine contained a report that members in the Bristol area some of whom were in South West Midlands and South Wales and others in the West Country would become part of West Country.
With effect from the 9th October 1994 West Country split into two groups West Country which covered Somerset and Devon EX and South West Penninsular which covered Cornwall and Devon PL and TQ.
